It is a monumental place. It is the central point of the East West Highway – the main artery of transport network of Nepal extending from the border point in east in Kakarvitta to border point in the west at Gaddachauki extendig to a length of 1028 kms. The Madhya Bindu (center point) located at Nawalpur district (a district split recently from earlier Nawalparasi) denotes 514 km to west and 514 km to east from this point. It is located at a stretch of the highway from Kawasoti to Chormara along a pristine forest which is preserved as a ‘scientific forest’. Therefore, the environment is serene, calm and very soothing for the travelers as a short rest place and a comfort stop.
There is a stand-alone monument which is in a rather dilapidated condition. Despite the condition of the monument people still stop to take photographs of themselves alongside the mid-point monument. This has turned out to be significant place and a memorial one at that since it is the center-point of the E-W Highway. Further, the recent name given to the municipality where it lies is ‘Madhya-Bindu municipality’, it has become a symbol of identity to the local entities and the people living there. The Municipality should cash in on this opportunity to generate revenue. At the same time, it will also be a planned and organized place adding to the beauty and identity of the municipality.
All these taken in, one calls for development of the ‘Midpoint’ as a recreational area, where travelers may stop, grasp the serenity of the pristine forest, have some comfort rest, refreshment and take away with them a beautiful moment full of joy take some memorable photo graphs in the longitudinal mid-point of Nepal. The municipality can grab the available opportunity to develop this area with appropriate parking refueling, dining rest place area which avoid the eyesore parking on the road side at the same time make avail appropriate place for foods and other opportunities to commuting long travels in public or private vehicles. For the local entity, it may become an important place through which it may have two benefits, one an identity with the very name of the municipality and two, it may serve as a touristic place also contributing to income generation to the municipality and at the same time generate and provide jobs to neighboring community. This spot with the appropriate highway facilities could become model examples for similar spots on the high way.
